Let’s get raw here, ok?!
I’ve been doing hair for 28 years. My prices are average. Yes, I could charge more, but I don’t want to charge myself out of business. YES!! It happens. I see it every..single..day!! I’d rather have more clients versus less clients, which can be clients who are looking for a less expensive stylist!
A client came to our salon and was talking about how she just left a stylist to come to us. She left because:
EXPENSIVE ISN’T BETTER!!!
NOW.. ALL STYLISTS….ALL…. Have redos. They all have bad days, bad turnouts, bad cuts, etc. Every single stylist has something to work on and something that they’re not great at.
Products are the same thing!
Recently had a client whose hair was trashed. She kept saying, “I use good stuff, so I don’t get it!”. Her shampoo was $46 for an 8-oz bottle. YIKES!! We used an organic line on her that’s half the price. We explained why it was a good product for her hair. The first thing she said was “But it’s cheap, so it’s gotta be crap!” !!! WHAT?? She literally thought that because the price tag was a nice price that it was junk.
Well, her hair felt great.
EXPENSIVE ISN’T BETTER!
I encourage every stylist to strive for the sky! There’s no limit to what each stylist can do and accomplish.
I encourage clients to realize that expensive isn’t better. Look at longevity. Look at reviews on products on stylists etc. Do your homework on licensure and length of licensure, and on products that work better for your needs.
